What does your new year look like for your business continuity goals? – January 2017

Tracey (Forbes) Rice, Vice President, Customer Engagement with Fusion Risk Management, Inc., offered her directional thoughts at the BRPA holiday luncheon.   "As risks and threats evolve, the way we manage business continuity programs needs to evolve as well.  In order to best understand how your organization operates and how it can break, you first need to understand how your organization is BUILT.  Establishing a strong information foundation is critical to developing a deeper understanding of risks, gaps, and capabilities so that BCM programs can deliver true organizational value and resiliency."  For details on this presentation, go to BRPA>Members Only Area>Past Event Material. Preparing for an Active Shooter - June 2016

Business Resumption Planners Association Chicago (BRPA) recently held an Active Shooter tabletop exercise.  Tom Provost, Follett’s Director Corporate Asset Protection, presented Follett’s Active Shooter training approach and lessons learned.   Tom suggested a company starting their Active Shooter program, should first review the essential resources, available from Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Rick Weil, Walgreens Program Manager Global Security and Corporate Campus Security, attended a panel discussion and suggested companies meet periodically with their local and regional police and emergency management personnel before a disaster happens to  hold “blue sky” meetings and discuss plans.  BRPA members can review the event presentation at the Members Only Area – Past Presentations.  Below are links to the national reference materials.

Have You Exercised Your Active Shooter Plan?

A key principle to Business Continuity is continuous learning – from actual events, and by exercising and improving our plans.  If you have not exercised your Active Shooter plan, it is time to move from plan to action.  On June 14, the Business Continuity Planners Association – Chicago (BRPA) will be holding a panel discussion on Preparing for an Active Shooter – Before, During and After as well as leading a Facilitated Tabletop Exercise.  This event will be held at the Northern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy (NIPSTA) at 2300 Patriot Boulevard, Glenview, IL.

As a starting point, refer to the DHS Active Shooter Booklet, DHS Active Shooter Booklet.   Members unable to attend the event, can check back to take advantage of the Members Only event presentation materials, at BRPA.
